Twitter changed our perception of how we gather and consume new information.  It took a sometimes time intensiveclammr logo process and compressed it to 180 characters or less.  In many ways, our brains have changed as we now expect very short bursts of information. The Clammr App does this for audio. That may or may not be a good thing. Fire up Clammr, add podcasts and news organizations that you care about, click play and listen as it runs through all your choices in 18 second audio clips. You listen as it goes through story by story. Find something interesting? Not a problem. Click on the read more button and the article will pop up for a deep read or listen. Multi-taskers (even though it is a myth)  find themselves able to listen to the next story at the same time they are doing a deep dive into the current story. Clammr added a remix option as well that is fairly interesting!  You can take the existing audio and add additional sound tracks including your voice, other podcasts,  music or simple sounds.   At first I had no idea why I would want to do this, but then realized it allows me to create remixed content based on a particular story or piece of audio I liked. Anything you hear or create is easily shared on your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Simple Uses?

Coming up with sample uses was a lot of fun for this app
  • Have your students subscribe to specific news feeds, then host a discussion in class the next day on what articles interested them
  • Listen/read an article then submit an audio response via the remix option. Share it with your instructor and fellow students
  • Create a customized playlist of news that relates to the topic you are studying
  • Create a mini podcast/summary of a topic you care about.  ShTwitter changed our perception of how we gather and consume new information.  It took a sometimes time intensiveclammr logo process and compressed it to 180 characters or less.  In many ways, our brains have changed as we now expect very short bursts of informationare it on Facebook or Twitter

Do I Plan To Use It?

As an Elementary Technology Coach, this app is not for my students. As an individual, sure! When I am casually doing something like cleaning the house (rare though it may be) I will fire up this app. I like to listen to a lot of podcasts anyway and this app gives me a similar experience as a news review.

Commitment And Learning Curve

Low to medium. Getting the app and going is super simple. Remixing what you hear and sharing it is a little more difficult. Nothing major, just takes a few extra steps.
