I don’t know if you’d agree, but I think that the hardest thing about teaching is trying to effectively differentiate so that you meet all the different needs in your room. It’s so hard to know how to tailor the curriculum for your room and to adjust that with each new concept and topic that comes up. Dreambox Learning is a platform that is designed to address that challenge in your math classroom. It is an adaptive math program and so it is automatically adjust to each student’s needs and provides them with math at their level. I haven’t started using this yet, but the idea intrigues me, especially with all the analytics that the program provides. If your school is interested in using adaptive learning this would be a great program to check out.
Concerns
If you’re going to use this it would need to be a school commitment. This is a full on program that would require some pretty intense integration into the curriculum if not becoming a replacement for the curriculum.
Sample Uses
We are looking at dreambox because we want to more effectively meet the needs of our advanced math students. We currently push kids up to the next grade level class but this might be a better way of meeting them where they are truly at.
Do I plan to use it?
Not sure yet! We are still in the trial and demo phase.
Commitment and Learning Curve
High. I think the program itself is pretty easy to learn for what it is but this is a full on curriculum program and so it requires a commitment from the school and the teacher.
Best for ES MS or HS?
All levels!
Cost
You need to request a quote for your school.
