Audio Review # 55 | These Common Core Math Wikispaces Help You Assess The Standards (Rebroadcast)

I’m not someone who hates standards.  There are definitely those people out there, but I’m actually a true nerd and kind of enjoy that standards exist.  I like that they guide my instruction and help me to know if I’m on track.  That said, I sometimes find standards incredibly hard to understand.  Sometimes the wording is very confusing and convoluted and I can’t seem to figure out what that standard would look like in a lesson or on a test.  Then I found a series of wikispaces that were created by the Howard County Public School System.  These sites are AWESOME.  They take each standard and provide example problems, rubrics, scope and sequences that help to guide you in understanding what your Common Core Math Standard is really trying to say.

Concerns

My only fear is that after I do this review so many people will log on and start using these resources that the Howard County Schools will start charging for them.  🙂

Sample Uses

We’ve used these sites a lot as we’ve refined our math assessments to make them more common core focused.  We’ve also used these to help step up problem solving in some of our units, bring more number lines into our math curriculum, and even to create assessment rubrics.  This site has saved our teachers countless hours of work.  I know that it cost someone else countless hours, so we are deeply in your debt.

Do I plan to use it?

See above.  🙂  YES!!!
