I’ll start by simply quoting the website: “Plickers is a powerfully simple tool that lets teachers collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices.” One of the teachers I work with described it as “tech without tech.” Plickers is a bit hard to explain so honestly it’s better for you to go to their website and watch a video to figure it out. However, I’m going to do my best to explain. Teachers sign up for an account and then print of “codes” for each of their kids. These codes are images that work something like a QR code. Each student code has a small “A,” “B,” “C,” or “D” on each side of the code. The teacher creates a multiple choice or T/F question through their Plickers account and then displays it on their projector. Then the students who their answer using their code by turning it so that their letter of choice is on top and holding it up. The teacher then scans the room using a mobile device and can quickly see what students know and do not know. It’s a great formative assessment tool for teachers to quickly collect data about what their students understand.
